On June 24th 2018, Young Water Solutions’ President and Director visited Young Water Fellow Alice Ndagire’s Kabuyonjo Project, in Kasokoso slum, Kampala, for monitoring purposes. Kabuyonjo’s team has built a toilet block that contains 6 pit latrines and 2 bathrooms, separated by gender. The toilets will be managed by local women, that will charge a pay-per-use fee to ensure that there are resources for maintenance. 10 young people has been trained in latrine building and masonry, and the community has received hygiene training as well.
The project is 80% complete. The toilet units have been built, but they are missing the pedestal, hand-washing facility, lights and accessories (bin, toilet paper, soap dispenser, etc), which will be incorporated in the next month.
